US Online Personality Penalized After Mass E-Bike Gathering on Iconic Australian Bridge
New South Wales police have issued a fine against an US-based online influencer and handed out two traffic infringement notices for alleged reckless operation following a swarm of e-bike riders gathered on the Sydney Harbour Bridge during the busy commute on Tuesday.
The Incident: An Illegal Gathering
A group of approximately 40 individuals operating electric bikes and motorbikes proceeded along the bridge’s main deck, where cycling is prohibited. The riders subsequently reversed direction and rode through the downtown area and Haymarket.
"This had potential for serious injury or fatalities," stated NSW police assistant commissioner the officer on the following day.
Police indicated they did not immediately pursue the riders out of concerns for public safety but rather found the group at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair near the Botanic Gardens, where they dispersed.
Penalties Issued for Content Creator
Later in the week, authorities stated they had served the US social media influencer known as the influencer, twenty-six, with two traffic infringement notices for careless operation (not involving death or prior injury), with a penalty of over five hundred dollars and penalty points each, in relation to the bridge ride-out. Officials noted that inquiries were continuing.
The personality reportedly has over 3.4 million subscribers on one platform and more than 1.2 million on Instagram.
Creator's Response
The content creator spoke with a major newspaper recently following the event spread rapidly on news sites and social media, saying he was sorry for giving "bike life" a bad reputation.
"I accept the blame. That was among the safest gatherings I have witnessed," he told the publication. "I’m coming here as a guest, so I’m going to abide by the laws and norms of the city. So when I decided to do a meet and greet it did not involve a group ride, it was just to say hi under the bridge."
"I’m unfamiliar with the city, I am to blame we found ourselves on the bridge and I had a decision to make: whether the group completes the entirety of the bridge and turns around, an illegal act. Or we turn around, essentially, before we’re on the bridge. I chose at the time to go back."
National Debate on E-Bike Regulation
The increase of e-bikes on roads nationwide has prompted growing calls for stricter rules. A senior government official, the minister, commented that non-compliant electric bikes were a "total menace on the road."
"Kids have done reckless acts on bikes since the invention of the penny-farthing [but] the injuries that are coming into our ERs are absolutely devastating," the minister stated. "We must make sure we stop these things entering the country [and] police are granted the authority to take strong action, to confiscate them, to crush them, to destroy them."
The state reported 226 injuries related to ebikes in 2024. However, in the first seven months of 2025, that number jumped to 233 injuries plus four fatalities.
