The Grisly Cartoon Movie Conclusion That Haunts Viewers
Out of every adult-oriented animated films I’ve personally watched, no other has remained with me as much as the dread-soaked conclusion of a viscerally violent and overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, the Spain-based writer-director developed a dark, somber , frequently brutal world that included some tiny , desolate hints of optimism.
While Unicorn Wars appears as it originated from an impulse to expand the medium even more, the filmmaker explained that it was more an effort to express a widespread, cross-cultural message regarding “the shared root of each battle.”
That message is conveyed via a band of colorful pastel bears , openly modeled after a well-known series of cuddly characters.
Maturing in a community built around warmongering as well as the war machine, many of these animals are obsessed with killing the mythical beasts, thanks to a sacred text that tells the bears they previously were masters of the woodland, until the unicorns drove them out.
Others haven’t fully bought into the brainwashing, and choose to sample drugs or engage sexually in the woods.
Unlike their gentle equivalents, these vivid animals show sexual organs , definite urges.
For a certain especially vicious, pessimistic creature, Bluey, the war against unicorns turns into a route to power — and particularly to authority above his softer, more compassionate sibling the bear Tubby.
The character acts as a tormentor and a seeming psychopath , and when terror takes over his group and claims his teammates individually, he grabs more and more power on his own behalf, in increasingly bloody, damaging approaches.
At the same time, the horned creatures are enduring their own terror, through a growing, harmful creature in their forest.
“In the early stages, it appears as a lighthearted film,” the director stated. “However it turns into a more dramatic and sorrowful movie. And in the finale, it’s a horror film.”
The Unicorn Wars commences similar to one of the more quirky films by a legendary animator, which find a wicked pleasure in permitting cartoon characters swear, fire weapons, or engage sexually.
Afterward it evolves into something more like a darker work from that creator, including ever more graphic violence and a palpable connection to genuine tragedy of conflict.
In the finale, it is an outright extreme drama carnage.
The horror which makes this a perfect Halloween movie starts a lot earlier than one might expect.
Unicorn Wars is one for the hardcore fans of gore, for enthusiasts of graphic films who desire to view a movie they haven’t ever viewed until now, and who can handle a plot that pulls no restraint.
Watch it in a dark room free from interruptions, and the finale will crawl deep within you and stay with you.
