Over a fortnight following the shocking loss of celebrated film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones continue to honor the couple.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Sharing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, explained he only now felt prepared to express about his deep grief.
"Enough time has passed that I can at last put my grief into words," posted Elwes, noting that his initial encounter with Reiner made him fall in love. "When we commenced passing more hours together I understood this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor posted never-before-seen clips from the movie, adding that he could not remember "any day without joy".
"This story is about affection, allegiance and giving. Principles that Rob cherished deeply. This is one of the many reasons he was the perfect person to direct it," Elwes expressed.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, saying: "To say that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still aches every time I think of you." He ended with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Fellow Artist
In a distinct tribute, legendary director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the main character.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked wonderfully with the cast, and he grasped the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Sealed
In a new development, a Los Angeles superior court judge ruled to bar the release of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, at the request from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A court order placed a security hold on the cases to restrict the public release of "any investigative information, evidence and photographs" connected to the active case.
The relevant authority had already determined their deaths were the result of homicide, with a official listing citing the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Response and Criticism
After the tragedy, public figures offered divergent responses.
Former President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, offering provocative remarks that were widely condemned by many public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his perspective to the those speaking out recently. Conversing on his podcast, Rogan labeled the comments as "shocking" and suggested they showed a worrisome absence of compassion.
Rogan finished by suggesting that an aide should have stepped in when the impulse to weigh in on the passing was made.
